Emperor Haile Selassie founded Ethiopian Airlines on December 1945 with assistance from TWA (Trans World Airlines). It commenced operations on April 8, 1946, with weekly service between Addis Ababa and Cairo with five Douglas DC-3 propeller-driven aircraft. Since then with a vision to become the most competitive and leading aviation group in Africa, Ethiopian Airlines has been the flag carrier of Ethiopia. During the past seventy plus years, the airline has become one of the authentic organizations in Africa and Ethiopia’s major industries by functioning and incorporating technology and expertise.
The Airline has become one of the continent’s leading carriers and it takes the biggest share of the pan African network including the daily and double daily flights across the continent. Currently, Ethiopian Airlines serves 21 domestic and 100 international destinations. It has been receiving numerous international and local awards from its inception; these are the awards the Airlines received in 2020:
