President Sahle-Work Zewde during her visit to Tanzania on Monday exchanged bilateral views with her counterpart John Pombe Joseph Magufuli. The two heads of state discussed several issues, including regional and continental concerns. President Sahle-Work apprised her counterpart, of the overall progress of the law enforcement operation and the humanitarian assistance in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
The two leaders talked about ways to strengthen economic and social cooperation between the two countries. They also have agreed to work together and enhance bilateral development opportunities of trade and tourism sectors. Moreover, they discussed the possibilities of the introduction of Kiswahili teaching programs at Addis Ababa University. Dr Magufuli has also assured pardon for 1,789 Ethiopian immigrants incarcerated for violating the country’s immigration laws.
Tanzania was the first riparian country to ratify the Comprehensive Framework Agreement (CFA) on the Nile waters. A joint-ministerial commission meeting will be held in the near future to assess additional areas of cooperation and bilateral relations.
